The eyeglass shop Warby Parker opened over the weekend in downtown Walnut Creek in the historic Dole House on Mt. Diablo Blvd. In addition to frames, they also offer contact lenses and plan to offer eye exams upstairs where you can book appointments for eye exams and contact lens fittings. Check out their Walnut Creek page here. “To celebrate the new year, Warby Parker created custom-illustrated 2020 paper glasses. During the last week of December (12/26 onwards), customers can stop in store to pick up a pair, no purchase (or prescription) required.”

Thanks to a reader for sending word that the SoCal-based men’s clothing store, TravisMathew, founded in 2007 and bought by Callaway a few years ago, is coming to Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek.

Plaza Escuela, Walnut Creek
The Japanese clothing store Uniqlo, which opened a little over five years ago at Plaza Escuela in downtown Walnut Creek, is closing on December 29th. They are still open in Concord, Pleasanton and Emeryville. Thanks to everyone who emailed about this.
Orinda Theatre Square
Thanks to a reader for sending word about a new “second hand clothing and home goods” shop called MidMod Exchange opening in Orinda Theatre Square “mid December”.
3541 Wilkinson Ln, Lafayette
Hofssi Chocolates is having their fourth annual holiday pop up shop in Lafayette right behind La Fiesta Square. They are open 10 am – 4 pm, daily through December 23rd.

I make premium chocolates, with great ingredients. I make chocolates that taste great. I love caramel, toffee and nut based chocolates. Those are my specialties. Last month we learned that the fur retailer Maximilian would be opening in downtown Walnut Creek where Z Gallerie used to be and they are now open. The men’s fashion shop Daskalos, which has been open since 1990 at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek, is closing at the beginning of January. I believe this was the only independently owned store within Broadway Plaza. Thanks to a reader for sending word about this.

The ambitious young immigrant brohers opened a second Daskalos Brothers in Lafayette, California in 1974 that became a mainstay of the community for 26 years. In 1990 Daskalos Brothers changed direction by opening Daskalos European Fashions in Walnut Creek California within Broadway Plaza. The new store now offered high-end European apparel such as Canali, Zegna & Brioni.
