7:00 p.m. Walnut Creek Library Oak View RoomHear the personal stories of the Civil War through popular wartime anthems and the poetry of some of the most prolific and profound Civil War-era writers.
The poems will be read by Lesher Center favorites Kerri Shawn and Scott Denison, accompanied by an ensemble to perform the war anthems. Northgate history teacher, Meg Honey will provide the historical context.
The songs and poetry are powerful and moving. From the “Battle Cry of Freedom” to the poetry of Whitman, Dickinson, Melville and others, we are reminded of the price of liberty and freedom.
