In September we learned that the New York-based activewear shop Yogasmoga would be opening in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek and they have now opened where the Athleta popup store used to be, next to Starbucks. However, according to the store manager they will be relocating to the soon-to-be vacated lululemon store, which will be relocating to Broadway Plaza this spring. Talk about musical chairs…

Continuing with the latest store openings in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek is the women’s sports clothing store Athleta which opened last week. Below you’ll see the old pop-up location next to Starbucks, also within Broadway Plaza.

With the initial redevelopment finished, the Broadway Plaza store openings keep coming as Apex by Sunglass Hut opened over the weekend in downtown Walnut Creek in a small but great location right next to Macy’s. Interestingly, there is already a Sunglass Hut on the other side of Broadway Plaza near Neiman Marcus but this store will feature more sports eyewear. That being said Sunglass Hut still carries Oakley so I’m not sure how thrilled they are with Apex opening nearby…

It’s been a couple of years but the Danish shoe store Ecco is back at a new location next to Macy’s in Broadway Plaza. Previously they were located on the backside of Broadway Plaza so they should be getting a lot more foot traffic now.

ivivva, the girls’ athletic wear clothing store, has relocated from their downtown Walnut Creek showroom to a more popular spot right near Macy’s in Broadway Plaza. ivivva is owned by lululemon, which is also relocating to Broadway Plaza this spring.
I like how the new Broadway Plaza store fronts are allowed to have their own unique designs, signage, colors and textures as this makes for a more interesting look compared to the more identically monotonous designs of past and which are visible in other shopping areas where all stores have the same exact awnings, typefaces etc.

We learned that the active wear clothing store Kit & Ace (created by the same person who founded Lululemon) was coming to Broadway Plaza back in June and they are now open despite the unfinished store front. If you look closely you can see there are two mannequins out front featuring their clothing.

Last week Kiehl’s and Lou & Grey opened in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek and on Saturday Lush Cosmetics opened right next to the Macy’s side entrance. You can see the shoe store Ecco right next door and Ivivva opened right across from Lush as well.

Over the summer we learned that the Ann Taylor-owned activewear clothing store Lou & Grey would be opening in the newly redeveloped section of Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek and they are now open (along with Kiehl’s). Ann Taylor Loft is open in downtown Walnut Creek next to Uniqlo. Stay tuned for more store openings on Black Friday such as the girls activewear shop Ivivva.

Last week I noted incorrectly that the skincare company Kiehl’s would be opening last Friday but now they are open for real in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek. Check out the history of this New York-based skincare company here. They first opened in New York’s East Village way back in 1851.
