Back in June I noted the opening of AZM Jewelers in the back of Broadway Plaza and this month they will be closing. Elegant Living Furniture located next door would like to expand into this location if they can reach an agreement with Broadway Plaza.
While walking by Starbucks in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek over the weekend I noticed this La Boulange sign on the Starbucks door. Looks like Starbucks is finally trying to offer higher quality bakery items in their stores. Has anyone tried Boulange items at Starbucks yet? How are they?
XCVI Pop-Up Shop, a fashion boutique also featuring local art from California has opened up in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek where Build-A-Bear used to be.
From their Facebook page:
The XCVI Popup Store is designed as an international bazaar, where shoppers can expect the bohemian aesthetic and ease of style that makes XCVI an effortlessly chic lifestyle brand. The store will feature XCVI’s vacation style clothing, as well as hand selected ensemble of local artisans showcasing their craft.
According an employee I spoke with the clothing is designed and manufactured in Los Angeles. Has any one checked them out yet? What are your impressions?

ABC News is reporting that a “vandal has been etching illegible graffiti onto the glass”, causing $10,000 in damages to Broadway Plaza stores. He has not been caught yet.
Back last September I noted that Davidson & Licht’s The Watch Shoppe was closing on N. Main St. in downtown Walnut Creek while keeping opening their Broadway Plaza store. Well, it turns out that according to preliminary plans Davidson & Licht will be jumping ship from Broadway Plaza once their new store is built at the N. Main downtown Walnut Creek location. This is made easier since they own the building where The Watch Shoppe (now a gift store) and the Vietnamese tapas-style restaurant Vanessa’s Bistro are located. Take a look at the renderings below to get a an idea of how it might turn out but keep in mind that these are only preliminary and have not yet been approved by the city.
One thing you may notice is that Vanessa’s is gone. They will have to move elsewhere although I hope they can stick around somewhere downtown. The new building will contain two floors plus a roof area for a total of over 8,000 square feet. There will be a watch section, jewelry sections, a bridal section, goldsmith and watch repair area so this is going to be huge.

These two red Ferraris were spotted, as usual, in front of Nordstrom in Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek.
The designer women’s clothing store Max Studio closed earlier this month in downtown Walnut Creek in Broadway Plaza. Back in January I noted that Arden B. would be closing as well so I wonder whether there is beginning to be an impact as retailers wait and see whether the Broadway Plaza long term plan will be approved by the city which would increase the retail space significantly but also demolish much of what is there currently. On February 19th the Broadway Plaza owners Macerich will present a refined development proposal so it will be interesting to see what they offer up.

Witnesses said the two suspects entered the business, with one suspect spraying employees with pepper spray while the other suspect broke the display cabinets with a sledge hammer. The suspects were in the store less than one minute and fled Northbound on Broadway Plaza in the suspect vehicle which was waiting out front. The loss was several Rolex watches. Not much surprise as it’s a seasonal store but Go! Calendars & Toys is closing by February 1st in the former Build-A-Bear location in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek. It looks like there are some good deals on calendars and toys so drop by to see what’s available before they close up shop (for now).
