Park ‘N’ Shop, Concord
A new restaurant called Stix Eatery is coming to the Park ‘N’ Shop on Willow Pass Rd in Concord where McDonald’s used to be, next to Rockin Crawfish.
On Saturday in Washington D.C. and cities around the world, the Women’s March took place including downtown Walnut Creek. Starting in Civic Park, thousands of people marched up Locust Street and back down N. Main St. in at times pouring rain, showing their support for various issues as well as protesting against incoming President Trump. One police officer monitoring the crowd said this was the biggest crowd in downtown Walnut Creek he had ever seen. To get an idea of how large the crowd was take a look at the photo below showing people marching from Civic Park towards Lesher Center a few blocks away. There were even more people out of frame in the park as well as marching up Locust St. Check out plenty of photos after the jump and check back every day this week for more photos of the march.

A new activewear popup boutique popup featuring figure skating gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi’s brand, Tsuya, recently opened where Tommy Bahama used to be in downtown Walnut Creek. They plan on staying open at this location through the end of January and possibly February with everything 25% off in-store. Check out their website here.
From a press release:
Yamaguchi launched this clothing line, Tsuya, (pronounced Tsoo-ya) in 2012, to deliver the style that fits every part of your active life. Tsuya offers modern designs, on-trend colors and sophisticated style, plus ultra comfortable fabrics.
Tsuya is a product with a purpose. A portion of the proceeds from all sales goes to the Always Dream Foundation (AlwaysDream.org), which inspires underserved children to reach for their dreams through innovative reading programs and by advancing the cause of early childhood literacy.
Tsuya will offer additional discounts in-store only.
Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Goodbye Barnes & Noble, hello Amazon Books! Thanks to a reader for pointing out that according to the latest permit information Amazon Books is coming to Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek, possibly where Go! Calendars – Games – Toys used to be. It’s ironic how Amazon caused so many physical bookstores to close, with Barnes & Noble closing around the corner last year; and now Amazon is the one opening a brick and mortar store. As an Amazon Prime member I look forward to checking this store out!
From the Amazon Books page:
As a physical extension of Amazon.com, Amazon Books integrates the benefits of offline and online shopping to help you find books and devices you’ll love. We select books based on Amazon.com customer ratings, pre-orders, sales, popularity on Goodreads, and our curators’ assessments. We place books face-out on the shelves, so each can communicate its own essence. Under each book is a review card with the Amazon.com customer rating and a review. Most have been rated 4 stars or above and many are award winners.
spacerAmazon Books is a store without walls – there are thousands of books available in store and millions more available at Amazon.com. Walk out of the store with a book or device; lighten your load and buy it online (Prime customers, of course, won’t pay for shipping); download a book for your Kindle; or add a product to your Amazon Wish List, so someone else can buy it.
spacerDevices in our Echo, Kindle, Fire tablet, and Fire TV families are available to test drive and buy. Associates are on hand to answer questions and show each device in action.
spacerPrices on all items for Amazon Prime members are the same as from Amazon.com. For customers who aren’t Prime members, Amazon devices are the same price as from Amazon.com; books and other items are sold at list price.

Thanks to everyone who sent word that Crogan’s Bar & Grill is closing next week on January 23rd in downtown Walnut Creek after 39 years. In 2014 their alcohol license was suspended for a couple of weeks and over the summer there was a homicide nearby which resulted in their hours being cut by the city as you can see in the sign below.
From the Facebook event page:
It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that after 39 years of business, Crogan’s will officially be closing the doors on Monday, January 23.
Many of you have been following the dealings with Crogan’s and the city of Walnut Creek. Unfortunately, the city has made it clear that they have very specific ideas in mind for what Walnut Creek should be and Crogan’s no longer fits into their narrative. Ultimately, we have been forced to close our doors.
Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Fashion store Vince Camuto, which opened last February in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek has closed. I believe this is first of the new stores after the redevelopment was completed earlier this year to close. Nearby, Old Navy will be opening soon.
