Thanks to everyone for sending word that the popular Italian restaurant Ottavio, which opened back in 2012, has closed in downtown Walnut Creek. Last week’s question of the day was about Italian restaurants so check it out for ideas on other Italian restaurants worth checking out.

Back in February we learned that Piedmont-based Mr. Green Bubble would be opening in downtown Walnut Creek and they have now opened. In addition to boba teas and smoothies they will also be offering fried snacks such as popcorn chicken. Check out their menu here. The inside styling looks great, check it out!

1677 N Main St, Walnut Creek
Thanks to foodhoe for pointing out that the LA style street food restaurant 310 Eatery has moved back to downtown Walnut Creek for the third time in the restaurant Library on Main of all places. Previously they were located within Redux Lounge on Locust St. and before that they were in their own restaurant where Ramen Hiroshi is now. For a close-up of the menu below click here. I think I’m going to have to go back for another Tokyo Po’Boy soon…
1356 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
The women’s clothing store Bryn Walker closed suddenly in downtown Walnut Creek. Previously they were in Broadway Plaza a few blocks away.
Encina Grande, Walnut Creek
Whole Foods has finally opened where Safeway used to be in the Encina Grande Shopping Center in Walnut Creek. Located in a newly built building, it’s HUGE and looks amazing, with a long coffee, beer and wine bar as well as tables on the far side at front. The other day they had three brews from Berkeley-based Fieldwork Brewing Co. Aisles are spaced out wider than the cramped Lafayette Whole Foods which is nice. One interesting point are the registers. For small purchases they have ONE line with multiple cash registers so you won’t get stuck behind one that’s lagging. On the way out I spotted a mochi ice cream stand which you can see below. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a self-serve mochi ice cream stand before. Pretty cool!
Civic Park, Walnut Creek
