Sunvalley Shopping Center, Concord

Last month, for the second time since spring, the Sunvalley shopping center in Concord had a serious rodent infestation at numerous restaurants according to this NBC Bay Area news article. You know things are bad when “there were mouse traps (with) a dead mouse in it at the time we inspected” and “roaches, live coach roaches.” WTF?!

When I finished playing video games at Round 1 with my son over the weekend he sat down near the food court and asked what’s for lunch. I gently suggested we go elsewhere and happily drove to nearby Veranda mall where we ate great burgers at Super Duper.

Bishops Cuts & Color Opens in Danville Square

Bishops Cuts & Color, the Portland-based unisex hair care shop which we learned would be coming to Danville Square next to Trader Joe’s this summer has now opened. They opened at the beginning of the year in Walnut Creek so the expansion continues. Check out their services here.

Square Baby Opens in Orinda Theatre Square

Earlier this summer we learned that a new baby food subscription service called Square Baby would be opening a retail shop in Orinda Theatre Square and they have now opened. Popbar Opens at The Veranda in Concord

Just in time for the end of a hot summer the ice cream on a stick shop Popbar recently opened at the Veranda shopping center in Concord. Check out their menu here. In addition to pops they also offer a unique gelatoShake “served in a milk-jug style cup with a chocolate dipped waffle cone overflowing with whipped cream”. Check it out here.

StarCycle Coming to Danville

Handworks of Danville closed last month in Danville and Oregon-based cycling studio StarCycle will be opening their first Bay Area franchise studio in this location. Note that they will offer childcare. Find out more about the classes and founders here.

Cool Tea Bar Renamed Koala Tea Cafe in Danville

Cool Tea Bar, which opened last summer in Danville, has been renamed Koala Tea Cafe. In addition to boba drinks they now offer sweet and savory crepes, ice cream, coffee, slushies and smoothies. I had a simple root beer float for $3.50 which was well worth it on a hot summer day!

Nanking Bistro Opens in Danville

The Chinese restaurant Wonderland closed earlier this month and Nanking Bistro has now reopened in its place on Hartz Ave. in Danville next to Fosters Freeze. Check out their menu here. I wonder how their house wings compares to my favorite at San Tung on Irving St. in San Francisco?

Roll House 2 Opens at College Square in Pleasant Hill

While we wait for Roll House to open in downtown Walnut Creek it turns out that Roll House 2 already opened at College Square near Diablo Valley College (DVC) on Golf Club Rd.in Pleasant Hill. They offer both sushi and poke bowls. I found out about this new restaurant from the foodhoe Instagram page here which has some really great photos of food dishes from mostly around the Bay Area.
