A new exhibit at the Bedford Gallery in downtown Walnut Creek, Personal to Political – Celebrating the African American Artists of Paulson Fontaine Press, is on display through March 25th.
From the exhibit website:
This exciting exhibition features works by 14 African American artists who have helped to shape the contemporary art conversation in the Bay Area and beyond. The show covers a wide range of prints, paintings, quilts, and sculptures, and includes an array of abstract and formal imagery. Narratives that speak to personal experiences and political perspectives are woven throughout. At the heart of this show is a Berkeley based fine art print studio—Paulson Fontaine Press—who over the past two decades has developed an unparalleled roster of internationally celebrated artists – artists like Martin Puryear , Kerry James Marshall, and the Gee’s Bend Quilters – who characterize the fresh perspectives that are today’s avant-garde.

Civic Park, Walnut Creek
Thanks to a reader for sending word that new, outdoor workout equipment is now available at Civic Park in Walnut Creek. It’s located right near the bridge that leads to the parking lot. There are no chains or gears which is why it can be left in the open from what I can tell. When I tried it didn’t provide much resistance but maybe I wasn’t doing it correctly. Has anyone used this yet?
Plaza Escuela, Walnut Creek
Late last year we learned that Poke Bar would be coming to another downtown Walnut Creek spot, this time at Plaza Escuela, and their signage is now up.
From their website:
Our journey with fish began in 1989 when Yanagi Sushi was opened in the heart of Northridge, CA. Today it still stands after 26 years with a great following of regular patrons as well as a constant flow of new discoverers. With years of sushi experience under our belt, we found it was time to expand our horizons and experiment with what we know. We have been serving Poke since our early days and from its popularity. Based on our creativity, the idea for Poke Bar was incepted

Body Time, the Berkeley-based skin care company that opened almost 50 years ago is closing all stores including their downtown Walnut Creek location which opened almost 4 years ago. For the time being the Walnut Creek location will remain open while they sell off their remaining inventory so drop by for the 50% sale going on.
Update from owner:
Yes, Body Time is closing its doors. Our warehouse rent doubled (not our Walnut Creek store) which made operating in our current form no longer feasible. Once we close our operations we will assess if we can offer our products to customers in a more cost efficient manner. We will continue to operate our Walnut Creek store for the foreseeable future while we sell our remaining inventory of products.
From their Facebook page:
We are closing everything on April 22. Our rents have almost doubled and we weren’t able to negotiate our lease. This was a big surprise for us as well as our many loyal customers. The social media will continue until the end of the month.
