Back in January I noted that the Bonne Nuit Lingerie store was closing, and it looks like this is their last week open. They shared space with jeu.de.jupe, who are remaining. They are located at 1387 North Main St. in downtown Walnut Creek.

Yesterday I had a chance to check out the progress at Corners Tavern coming to 1342 Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek next to Macy’s and Boulange Bakery. Above you can see two massive 13×34 foot roll-up garage doors with space for outdoor seating.
From a press release:
Corners Tavern is named after the original designation of the area: in 1849, the town of Walnut Creek was originally named “The Corners.” In 1862, the first post office went in and it was renamed “Walnut Creek.” Corners Tavern is housed in what was a blacksmith warehouse that served the local community, at what is now the corner of South Main Street and Broadway Plaza.
Corners Tavern will be open seven days a week for dinner and will begin serving lunch a few weeks after opening. Reservations will be available via SeatMe.
Below you can see the main dining area:
There will be 16 beers on tap at the horseshoe-shaped bar that can handle up to 32 people.
The cuisine will be contemporary American, and will, “feature big, bold flavors modeled on the beloved classic English pub and a beverage program that respects the classics with a nod toward small production, local producers.”
From the press release:
Owner Mitchell Rosenthal and Chef Esteban Escobar are bringing big flavors to the menu, with a focus on local, organic & sustainable ingredients. Menu items will include snacks such as duck fat roasted potatoes and herb crème friache and pork cracklins with aleppo pepper and honey; small plates such as baked apples, gorgonzola and membrillo and pork belly with arbol chilies, pineapple, cabbage and radish salad; and larger plates that feature dishes like house made lamb sausages, soffrito and fava beans and grilled swordfish, braised artichokes, fennel, chorizo, watercress and lemon vinaigrette.
A preliminary menu, subject to change, can be viewed here. I can’t wait to try the pork belly and house made lamb sausages. Mmm! You can read an interview with the executive chef Esteban Escobar here.

U Threads, the Cal related clothing store located on the back side of Broadway Plaza will be closed by next week, so if you’ve been waiting for some Cal gear now is your chance to pick something up at 40% off. The SFO store will also be closing with only the Stanford gear at the Palo Alto store remaining for now, although they plan on reopening elsewhere in the future.
It looks like some retailers are having a hard time on this side of Broadway Plaza. Last week I noted that Super Silver Jewelry, located right next to U Threads, recently closed as well.
The Super Silver Walnut Creek jewlery store, located in Broadway Plaza near Nordstrom, has been closed since the end of February. According to their Facebook page they still have stores in Capitola, Santa Cruz and Sacramento.
Back in December I noted that Erawan Thai restaurant in downtown Walnut Creek was closing down according to a reputable source, but weeks later they were open and now unfortunately, as can be seen in the photo, they have closed for good. I spoke with one of the workers helping to move out and she thought that the owner might have been having a hard time handling operations. So it turns out the source was right after all!
A couple of months ago I noted that Stript Wax Bar, a custom waxing salon was coming to Walnut Creek and now it has finally opened, along with Lashfully, a beauty salon specializing in eyelash extensions. It turns out that Stript is subletting from Lashfully, and there is one host there handling both salons. Lashfully has locations in San Francisco, and Los Angeles while Stript has locations in San Francisco, Oakland, Palo Alto and Los Angeles. Take a look at the nicely done interior below.
Lashfully and Stript Wax Bar are located at 1629 Cypress St, across the street from Extreme Pizza.

PureBeauty, a cosmetics store located at Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek next to Boudin Bakery is closing. Looks like there may be some good deals to be found at 30-50% off.
A new drawing studio for children called A Colorful Mind recently opened its doors in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek at 1341 N. Main St. in the passageway where the women’s boutique Norf London is located. As you’re walking down N. Main St. towards Neiman Marcus, turn right right before the Rochester Big & Tall clothing store in the covered passageway and it will be on your right, a few stores down.
Classes are age appropriate, from a “Getting Ready – Drawing Through the Alphabets & Geography” for younger kids to “Drawing Fundamentals” for kids 8 & up. You may register online here.
The inside of the studio looks really well designed and neat. So if you have kids I would defintely recommend checking this studio out. If anyone has been already please chime in and let us know how it is.
From their website:
A Colorful Mind Drawing Studio is a nurturing and relaxing environment that is designed to help children ages 4 and older learn to focus, create, and express themselves. Through structured instructions and age-appropriate projects, we help each child interpret information in his or her own unique way without competition or judgment. This fosters creativity, imagination, and the type of dynamic and adaptive thinking that is critical for success in both academic endeavors and in life.
Master Diamond, located at 1372 N. Main St. in downtown Walnut Creek, across the street from Adib’s Persian Rug store, has closed. According to the sign in the window they have been in business since 1985 so it looks like they have been there for over 25 years.
Yesterday’s Treasures, a new consignment store recently opened in Lafayette about 2 weeks ago. It’s located at 996 Moraga Rd. next to Squirrels Coffee Shop and focuses on larger items like sofas and furniture but also offers smaller items as can be seen by the photo below:
This is their 3rd store; the other stores are located in Antioch and Brentwood. From their website:
We are a furniture consignment store offering the most unique, attractive, and many times one of a kind home furnishings. We specialize in newly used and unique furniture at affordable prices. Even our antiques and vintage pieces are in impeccable condition!!
