The Lafayette based home decor and gift shop Transitions has opened a new location at the backside of Broadway Plaza.
From their website:
Transitions is a quintessential “Mom and Pop” business. Transitions originally opened in 1976 as an upscale beauty salon in San Francisco. In 1986 we left the big city, to start a new business and raise our children in Lafayette. Though a hair dresser by trade, I’ve always had a love for home decor and all things beautiful, hence the gift store. Our boutique is festooned with an array of thoughtfully chosen treasures for you, your home, or gifting.
Inside showcases antique tuba from 1930s:
You may recall in May I posted scuttlebutt about the backside of Broadway Plaza closing in 2014 and this is in-line with that as Transitions will only be in Broadway Plaza until the end of the year.
Earlier this month I noted that the Italian restaurant Picolo Napoli would be opening in Orinda Theatre Square and this weekend I dropped in to try out their pizza, salads and gelato and it was really good. Check out their menu here. Diablo Dish also has more information here. In addition to their online menu they also offer appetizers such as a caprese mozzarella salad, house salad and housemade bread sticks with roasted garlic and Parmesan.
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you may know that I’m a huge pizza fan so how does it stack up? To me this reminds me of a traditional New York pizza, albeit a bit thinner. Mostly local ingredients are used including San Marzano and grape tomatoes and a six-cheese mix.
As for the gelato, mmmm. Very creamy and rich. The salted caramel flavor is insanely good.
Playful art on the walls:
Bar area located at the far end:
Piccolo Napoli is located at 2 Theatre Square across from Republic of Cake in downtown Orinda.
The home decor and gift shop Hen House has closed in downtown Lafayette. In business since 2001, they were located at Lafayette Circle right across the street from Starbucks. They may be doing Ebay sales though. From their website:

See’s Candies is opening at 9:30am today according to a sign in the window at the Lafayette Plaza Center near Whole Foods. According to a See’s employee in the Walnut Creek location this is not replacing the Broadway Plaza location which eventually will close along with other Broadway Plaza stores. The Walnut Creek See’s location plans on relocating somewhere in downtown Walnut Creek.
Check out the inside of the Lafayette store:
See’s Candies is located at 3518 Mt. Diablo Blvd in the Lafayette Plaza Center, a few stores down from Whole Foods.
A little over a year ago Handlebar Toys closed in the Lafayette Shopping Center and now the vitamin store GNC will be opening up in its place.
Head 2 Toe Reflexology & Massage recently opened in downtown Walnut Creek on Locust St. I believe another massage place used to be at this location so not much has changed.
The housewares and gift shop Entrez! Open House has recently closed in downtown Walnut Creek on Cypress St. Their new location will be at 100 Grand Ave. in Oakland beginning June 24th. Check out their website here. This leaves downtown Walnut Creek without two great housewares and gift shops as Wish also left downtown Walnut Creek for 2333 Boulevard Way in Walnut Creek less than a mile away.
In order to make room for extra parking for the new restaurant The Cooperage in downtown Lafayette, the building where Twigs Floral & Art called home for over 25 years will be demolished soon. Twigs will still be open for phone and online orders so check out their website for more info here.
Back in February I noted that a new salon was opening where Pure Beauty used to be on Mt. Diablo Blvd. in downtown Lafayette and now Lafayette Beauty Store has opened. There is quite a large cosmetics section in front as can be seen in the photo below.
Lafayette Beauty Store is located at 3606 Mount Diablo Blvd. right near Pizza Antica in Lafayette.
