On Wednesday afternoon after I sold my car in downtown Walnut Creek, I ran into Occupy Walnut Creek at the corner of N. Main St. and Mt. Diablo Blvd. They are still protesting all these weeks, from 4-6pm on Wednesdays, which I was surprised to see as I thought they had disbanded months ago. Since this should be the Friday Question of the Day, do you support Occupy Walnut Creek and the protests?

On Wednesday 07/11/12, at approximately 5:22 PM, Walnut Creek Police responded to a reported robbery at knife point at the Broadway Plaza Parking Structure near Macy’s. Police arrived in minutes and determined the above described suspects approached the victims in their parked car and stole their purses at knife point. The suspects were last seen running through the upper level of Macy’s and possibly leaving in a dark colored Lexus SUV.

KTVU recently reported on the murder of a woman by a man living with her for over ten years:
Their records show officers had been called to this house in the past. Jennings said that the killing is Orinda’s first homicide since 2002.
The murder that took place in 2002 was the infamous Susan Polk case in which she murdered her husband at their Orinda home. I found out about this when their house came up for sale at a steep discount sometime later. I remember thinking the pricing to be quite low, and sure enough, that’s what happens when a murder happens on a property. I imagine the same will happen with this house in the future.

However, note the image towards the bottom. It’s a picture of a green dollar bill holding up a “Thank You” message. So the question is, is the “green” referring to the environment, or is it referring to the increased profit Broadway Plaza retailers stand to make by lowering their electricity bill?

Weight Watchers has opened in the Rheem Shopping Center in Moraga, replacing Dahn Yoga. They are located at 452 Center St. next to the post office. I wonder how this will compare to the Swedish Itrim center opening in Lafayette soon.
Back in May I checked on the progress of Lamorinda Theatre Academy, a dance, acting and vocal studio for children in Lafayette and now construction has been completed and free classes are available all this week. This seems like a great opportunity to check out the instructors and see what the studio has to offer. If you go, let us know how it was. Lamorinda Theater Academy is located at 83 Lafayette Circle, right above Lamorinda Music.
From a Walnut Creek Police Department press release:
This morning at approximately 6:11 AM, a Walnut Creek resident noticed a strange man standing in the living room of his residence. The startled resident confronted the man, who immediately fled from the residence toward Ygnacio Valley Road. While checking the area for the described suspect, WCPD officers contacted a subject who was walking on the south curb of Ygnacio Valley Road just a short distance away from where this burglary occurred. Officers detained the subject, who they identified as Alfredo Rene Powell of Hayward. Powell, who is currently on active probation out of Alameda County for a previous offense(s), was identified by the resident as the person he saw running from his residence. The resident believes Powell gained entry into his residence through an unlocked patio door. The resident does not believe anything was stolen from within his residence.
Powell was subsequently arrested for residential burglary and violation of probation. He was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility where he was booked on the aforementioned charges.
